Icona Pop über HBO Girls, Aliens & Givenchy

icona-popI don’t care, I love it!

Considering your band name Icona Pop: Who is your own personal pop icon?
Aino: Definately Prince, he’s probably the manliest man on earth who can wear high heels.
Caroline: For Aino it’s Prince, but for me it’s David Bowie!

Can you describe Icona Pop in only three words?
Aino: Our music can be described as „bittersweet“, „electronic“ and „twisted“ popmusic because you can cry and laugh at the same time to every song, it depends on the mood you’re in. And it gives you that euphoric danceable feeling when you hear it!

What’s your favourite song to perform on stage?
Aino & Caroline: I think it’s Top Rated! We sort of love the drums in it which make the people dance! We also love to twist songs in every way we can, because music has no boundries.

If you had to remix one of the following songs, which one would you choose and why?
a) Taylor Swift: I Knew You Were Trouble
b) Natalie Imbruglia: Torn
c) Britney Spears: Hit Me Baby One More Time
Aino & Caroline: We’d definately choose Britney Spears because we grew up with her music and she’s one of the most important pop artists.

If you had to do a soundtrack for a movie, what kind of movie would it be?
Aino: I think it would be a Tarantino movie or something with aliens in it, like a science fiction thing. We also love watching the X-files, probably we’d to the soundtrack for the series as well.

Speaking of TV series. Your Song I Love It was a blast on Lena Dunham’s HBO Girls. Do you watch Girls? Which character suits you the most?
Aino: We love the show and are very glad about our song being played in it!! I think it’s the mixture of all four characters that makes the whole thing interesting. Depending on the situation they’re in, you can find yourself acting similiar to each of them – it’s just brilliant!

Did HBO Girls have a big influence on your career?
Aino: Yes, it helped us especially in America. Thanks to the show people in the United States are listening our songs!

Because you’re Swedish and always well dressed: If you had to do the music for a fashion show, which designer would you support?
Aino: We’ve been at a fashion show where the models were wearing masks, that was great! The designer was Givenchy. And the fashion of Alexander McQueen is also very inspiring!

And if there was a movie about Icona Pop which movie title would fit the best, who would play the main role and what would it be about?
Aino: The main roles should be given to Prince and David Bowie but I’d love to play the villain! The title should sound really cool, something like „35milligrams in a bigger world“. The plot would probably be about putting on a cape and getting invisible and it would all end like…. (Caroline interrupts)
Caroline: Oh no, I can see it in your eyes, you’re up to something bigger, so we won’t tell the end yet, because when the movie is finally finished we’re gonna sell it for a big amount of money!

Our last question is one for the fans: If one would meet you at a party and wanted to get your attention, how can they get it?
Aino & Caroline: Since we’re touring around the world we get to know many different personalities and we love the diversity because we’re very open-minded! I think it’s the best when a person acts 100% authentic, we like that a lot!
